SCIENCE AWARD!

We are delighted to have been awarded the Silver Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM) for the quality of our science across school. The PSQM is led by the university of Hertfordshire School of Education in partnership with the Primary Science Teaching Trust. It is supported by the Royal Society for Chemistry, the Ogden Trust and the Association for Science Education.

Jane Turner, PSQM National Director said: “Gaining a Primary Science Quality Award is a significant achievement for a school.  The profile and quality of science teaching and learning in each awarded school is very high. Children are engaging with great science both in and outside the classroom, developing positive attitudes towards science as well as secure science understanding and skills. Science subject leaders, their colleagues, head teachers, children, parents and governors should be very proud.”

Working scientifically, we have been involved in some exciting projects such as Rocket Science, which gave around half a million UK children the chance to learn how science in space contributes to our knowledge of life on earth. We used the invaluable expertise of the European Space Agency (ESA) and RHS Science team. Children have also learnt from heart and plant dissections, analysing CSI crime scenes, using digital microscopes and much, much more. We have hosted a whole school science week in which we invited parents in to view the learning which had taken place across the whole school in science and children took part in competitions to win Science books. There has been a real science buzz around school.

Raising the profile of Science has also enabled us to enhance our resources and see the benefits that improved technologies such as digital microscopes have to children learning and finding out in science sessions.

Our whole staff team and our children are very proud of this achievement.
