All of the children in Year 5 and 6 will be given English and Maths homework weekly. This will include a variety of tasks, including spellings, to encourage the children to continue their learning at home. Children will be expected to complete at least three 20 minute readings per week; these must be signed by an adult at home to collect their stars. T

Year 5 and 6 Curriculum

Learning Challenge Curriculum – ‘Invaders = sea-faring savages?’

This half term is the second half of our learning about the Vikings.  Year 6 have been on their visit to Jorvik and will be teaching each other. Year 5 will have a brilliant time! We also have a Viking treasure box arriving in school so we can get hands on with real evidence of this era in time. We will still be looking at these questions:

  • Who were these invaders of Britain and what was important to them?
  • What evidence do we have that they were here in the first place?
  • Law and order – how did it work and how is it different now?
  • What did these invaders believe in and has it impacted on us today?
  • Can you create a settlement that these invaders lived in?

Science

In Year 5, we will be delving deeper into the same science topic of ''What will I look like in 2070?' but with more of a focus on how our bodies change over time and how relationships also change. A letter will be going home to parents explaining what we will be covering in this unit of science which crosses over with our PSHE curriculum.
